Barnard Eco-Reps are a student group dedicated to increasing environmental awareness on campus, connecting students, administrators, and faculty in an effort to reduce Barnard’s negative environmental impacts. They are peer educators who teach waste reduction and energy efficient behaviors to students in the residence halls. The Eco-Reps and Residential Life sponsor a Give + Go Green Program at the end of the academic year to collect items from students during move-out to donate and recycle. (In 2008, 12,000 plastic bags were recycled!) To learn more visit the Eco Reps website.
Sustainable Initiative Consulting Board
The Sustainability Initiative Consulting Board (SICB) serves as the means by which students actively research and assess campus sustainability to maintain and/or improve this social commitment. It acts as a liaison between the student body and administration, including Vice-President for Administration and Capital Planning. This committee is responsible in developing policies and building infrastructure to increase campus sustainability including but not limited to waste reduction, energy consumption, and water conservation. This committee will be dedicated to work alongside Eco-Reps. Whereas the mission of the Eco-Reps is peer education of sustainable practices at Barnard, SICB shall work towards enabling policies for the success and efficiency of their efforts.
The committee meets weekly. Three members of this committee will participate in a tripartite sustainability committee led by VP of Administration and Capital Planning at least three times a semester.
The committee is comprised of appointed students. The Representative for Campus Policy and one appointed Eco-Rep member will serve as co-chairs. Contact: SGA@barnard.edu for more information.
