Student
Life
Barnard's
campus offers every student— international or domestic,
first-year or senior, athlete or musician, poet or scientist
— the opportunity to find her own place. Here are
some of the offices around campus that help students become
a part of the Barnard and New York City communities.
Office
of Multicultural Affairs
Respecting
and learning about diversity — in all the ways to
define it — is
central to the Barnard College mission. The Office of Multicultural
Affairs, in addition to academic departments and student
organizations, sponsors several programs throughout the
year that focus the community’s attention on the rich
cultural traditions of our students and our New York City
environment. Moreover, the staff helps students navigate
the
multicultural living and learning environment at Barnard.
Office
of Residential Life and Housing
Living
on campus means more than having a place to sleep. Barnard's
campus is where students study, have meals, make friends,
and exchange ideas. Housing at Barnard is guaranteed for
all four years and more than 90 percent of students live
in college housing. All first-year students live in the
Quad,
four connecting buildings on the south end of campus. Upperclass
students
typically live in suite style rooms with several bedrooms.
Residents share a kitchen, living room, and bathroom. All
campus housing is within a few block radius of the Barnard
campus and all have 24-hour security, internet access and
laundry facilities.
College
Activities Office
The
Barnard College Activites Office (CAO) is the hub of Barnard's
student
life. College Activities works with over 80 clubs and organizations
on
campus, including more than 20 identity and/or cultural
clubs (see below), that are open to all students. These
clubs host events, bring speakers to campus and are ways
for Barnard students to connect with other students with
similar interests and backgrounds.
