Intramural
Sports
For
those who enjoy playing sports in a relaxed atmosphere as
a means of light recreation, intramural teams are a fun,
yet competitive option. With the guidance of the Physical
Education Department, students organize their teams
and choose a captain to serve as the representative. The
games are structured and officially refereed though the
teams do not have coaches and generally do not practice.
Most teams play 1-2 games a week for seasons lasting about
2-3 months. Barnard sponsors teams in: basketball, floor
hockey, indoor soccer, tennis, lacrosse, and volleyball. Barnard students
may also play on coed intramural teams organized by Columbia
University. For more information, contact Tavius Cheatham,
the Director of Intramurals & Recreation for Barnard
College, by telephone at 212-854-6959 or by e-mail at
tcheatham@barnard.edu.
