Why
study at Barnard in the Spring?
Spending a semester at Barnard College presents a wonderful
opportunity for engaging study in a unique setting: a small,
liberal arts college for women in New York City. Barnard’s
Spring in New York program will allow students to take advantage
of:

Small, dynamic classes taught by Barnard faculty members
with Barnard students. All Spring in New York students
are encouraged to choose classes from our extensive catalog
(link) and to apply for an internship. Students will enroll
in at least four courses (12 points).
- Internship
opportunities throughout New York in fields including
finance, fashion, the arts or media

New York City as your laboratory, integrating the city’s
resources in your learning both within and beyond the
classroom

New York City’s cultural resources including discounted
tickets to Broadway shows and free admission to museums
Who
Should Apply?
Undergraduate students who are degree candidates at other
colleges and have completed a full year of study may apply
for admission as visiting students. Candidates for Spring
in New York should have a satisfactory college record and
a letter of approval from the dean or major adviser from
the degree-granting institution. (take a leave of absence
from current school while working out the classes they will
take here on campus so they will transfer back to their
institution of origin)

Financial
Information
Unfortunately, Barnard College is unable to offer financial
assistance to visiting students. However, students may be
able to bring their aid with them from their current institution
or get outside funding from foundations and local organizations.
Please check with your current institution about bringing
your aid with you during your Spring in New York semester.
Barnard’s financial
aid website has a list of some helpful links to possible
outside funding.
Housing
Campus
housing will be guaranteed for all Spring in New York students.
Spring in New York students will receive a housing application
after admission.
Internships
Spring
in New York students have the opportunity to pursue an internship
during the term in a variety of fields throughout New York
City. Barnard’s Office of Career Development can assist
students in finding internships and will provide a one day
internship counseling session prior to New Student Orientation
in January. The session will include resume building, interviewing
skills, and an introduction to the internship database and
the Career Development resources. The Office of Career Development’s

Other opportunities for Spring in New York students
Spring
in New York students may also participate in the life of
the College and New York City in other ways. All visiting
students are welcome to become involved in the campus’s
more than 50 clubs
and organizations. Visiting students will also have
free access to many of the city’s museums through
their Barnard College ID Card and will be able to take advantage
of discounted tickets to Broadway shows and happenings around
the city.
