Student Perspective - Nazli Danis
Firstly, Welcome to you all and CONGRATULATIONS!!
This is going to be one of your best summers where you won't have to worry about or plan anything about your future so you better spend it well! If you've already started worrying about leaving home and getting homesick, STOP! Good news: It’s really not bad at all; survival in college is much easier than you think. For those wondering about what's going to happen with their high school friends: Don't worry. I'm an international student from Turkey, half of my friends are attending college together back there yet when I went home for winter break, it felt like we've never been apart in the first place.I guess what I'm trying to say is don't worry about change and accept it, cherish it and celebrate your success as the prize for your hard work.
Everybody's going to make you feel so welcomed in here and it's going to be fantastic! By the end of your first winter break when you leave your home and come back to Barnard, as you step into your room, you will be surprised to see how much you feel like you're home. When you have a liberal arts college combined with a major research university and placed in New York City, the world is your oyster. Barnard will give you the confidence and provide you the support to explore. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of possibilities for everything from academics to study abroad to what to do on a Friday evening. It's endless and it's amazing.
