Executive Summary
This policy defines the minimum network capacity required per person in Barnard College offices. The minimum number of wired network connections required in a Barnard College office space is three (3) per person, but more may be required as determined by Barnard's Vice President for IT or her designates.
Reason for the Policy
The current best practice for office space functionality includes support for a computer, a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephone, and additional device per person. This does not include wireless devices.
Who Is Responsible for This Policy
Barnard's Vice President for Information Technology or her designates is responsible for the maintenance of this policy and for responding to questions regarding this policy. The College reserves the right to amend this policy and to limit or restrict the use of its electronic information resources at its sole discretion.
Who is Governed by This Policy
This policy applies to all faculty and staff office spaces on the Barnard College campus.
Statement of Policy
The minimum number of wired network connections required in a Barnard College office space is three (3) per person, but more network connections may be required as determined by Barnard's Vice President for IT or her designates.
Individuals on the Barnard College campus interested in requesting new or additional network connections must submit a request via email to help@barnard.edu. Upon BCIT's inspection of the office space and gathering of requirements, Barnard's Vice President for IT or her designates will recommend the minimum number of wired network connections needed (no fewer than three (3) per person).
Enforcement
BCIT will recommend the minimum number of wired network connections required in each situation after consulting with the requestor. This is a normal step whenever there is a request to add, move, or fix network connections.
