The B.A. in biochemistry or chemistry from Barnard has prepared our alumnae for a variety of careers, including scientific research, medicine, teaching, molecular biology, environmental science, and materials science to name just a few.  Many graduates of the Barnard College Chemistry program go on to distinguished careers in science and medicine.  Barnard ranks first among liberal arts colleges in the number of women B.A. graduates listed in the 1997 ACS Directory of Graduate Research. This directory lists faculty members in departments offering advanced degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, etc.
