On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29, Barnard welcomed over 600 family members and friends to the campus to enjoy a variety of academic and cultural events. On Friday, guests were invited to sit in on classes, attend open houses run by academic and administrative departments, hear from student leaders, faculty authors, and learn about study abroad options. A welcome reception featured remarks by President Spar and Dean of the College Avis Hinkson. In addition, Barnard and Columbia dancers performed global, classical, and contemporary forms, and the Theatre Department offered performances of José Rivera’s “Marisol.”
Saturday’s unusually early snowfall didn’t dampen the spirits of the many who attended morning brunch or the full slate of afternoon panels which began with Dean’s Discussions: “Thriving as a First-Year Student,” and “After the First Year: What’s Next.” These were followed by a panel of recently tenured social science faculty discussing their research and teaching, and another on the importance and value of the internship experience.
For students whose families were unable to attend the weekend, the Quad RA’s hosted Fall Fest, with pumpkin painting, refreshments, and music.
