International Student Advising

International students from all over the world comprise a vibrant and integral part of the Barnard community. Dean Ani Bournoutian, the international student adviser, is available to guide them in regard to their status as international students in the United States. During Orientation, the dean hosts a welcome lunch/dinner for new international students and a reception for the families of new international students.

Each semester, the international student deans meet with students to advise them of the federal regulations that pertain to their status as international students in the United States. An immigration lawyer is usually present at one of these meetings. A favorite event is the Thanksgiving tea for international students, many of whom are on campus for this short holiday. These and other programs specifically for Barnard international students will be announced as they are scheduled. Most programs scheduled by Columbia University's International Students and Scholars Office are open to Barnard students. International students also participate actively in the Multicultural and International Students Association (MISA).
