Enrolling Students - Spring Term

Enrolling Transfers and Visiting Students,
your next steps are here!

Early decision first year admits will not fill out forms until May.  This page is for transfers only.

Finally, the moment has arrived!

If you have committed to Barnard and submitted your deposit, you are well on your way to becoming an enrolled student at Barnard College.  We know you have been eagerly awaiting the moment when you can create your Barnard email, fill out your housing forms, check out health insurance options, and select classes.  You have been very, very patient!

Please note:  If you have not yet submitted your deposit or said yes to our offer, please visit our Admitted Students Page.

What happens next?

Shortly after your enrollment is confirmed, your status is updated in both the Barnard and Columbia student information systems.  This process may take 1-2 weeks, depending upon timing.

When completed, you will receive an email directing you to create your Barnard gBear (email) login and password, retrieve your UNI, and set up your access to the myBarnard portal.

What’s in the portal?

Forms in the portal will include those required by Health Services, the Registrar, as well as information from the Dean of Studies.  Access to this portal and to your enrolling students TO DO list will be forthcoming. The portal will also be a resource for you to access announcements, reminders, and other important tools throughout your time at the College.

In the meantime, if you are applying for housing you can do that now via the form in the column to the right.

Residential Life and Housing

If you wish to apply to live in campus housing, please submit a Housing Application by Thursday, December 18, 2014.

Please note that while the College makes every effort to provide an assignment if possible, campus housing is NOT GUARANTEED for Transfer & Visiting students.

Room assignments, if available, will be emailed to students in early January.

Move-in info

What to bring

Spotlight on NSOP, 1/14-19

Barnard's New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) works in conjunction with the three other undergraduate programs under the umbrella of Columbia.  We schedule move in and many activities together, but we do our own thing, too, Barnard-style.

Each NSOP is planned and implemented by nearly all students, with the support of some hardworking administrators. Schedules and details will be posted closer to move-in.

Who is my adviser?

Every transfer/visiting student will have at least two academic advisers with whom to consult during her time at Barnard. Each student will work with a Dean in the Dean of Studies Office.  And, every student will also work with a faculty adviser once they declare a major.

Dean Christina Kuan Tsu will be reaching out to you sometime in mid-December to notify you of planned advising sessions.

Questions and more questions!

What's my class color?
What's my constellation?
What classes should I choose for my major?
Who will be my roommate?

All these questions and more will be answered over the next few weeks.  Once you have access to the my.barnard.edu portal, feel free to contact these campus resources with questions about their forms.

What happens next?

You will receive an email from Barnard College Information Technology Student Computing and the Registrar’s Office letting you know when you will be able to set up or retrieve access to the following:

  • myBarnard, an intranet portal which allows access to internal online resources.  Use it to submit loan, student services, and academic forms and much more.
  • gBear, Google education, web-based email, contacts, and calendar program. gBear accounts are issued by Barnard and include 7.5 GB of storage.
  • Columbia UNI (your initials + a 4-digit #), used to access University e-resources, including library journals and e-collections, labs, Courseworks and more.

This email should be sent to you within 1-2 weeks from your date of deposit and reply to our offer of admission.
