New York Needs You Information Session

VISION   First-generation college students will have the support necessary to realize their full potential, which will enrich the social fabric of our city, country and world.

MISSION  NYNY closes the opportunity gap through an intensive career development and leadership training program that enables high-potential, first-generation college students to realize their career aspirations.

Two-year fellowship program to help students define/ refine their aspirations and give them the confidence, information and access necessary to succeed

Advanced Career and Leadership Development Curriculum

  • Life Planning – Fellows will develop life plans that articulate a clear path to their personal and professional goals
  • Career Development – Fellows benefit from training in public speaking, personal finance, written communication and interviewing
  • Community Leadership Projects – Fellows will lead projects aimed at improving success rates for similarly-situated  young people

  • Receive mentorship, guidance and support (1 on 1 support)
  • Access/ build meaningful relationships with 200+ experienced mentors, community leaders and industry specialists
  • Develop core skills for success, such as communication and relationship management skills
  • Expand career options and preparation
  • $2,500 Professional Development Grant for eligible fellows

Expectations:

Time commitment

  • 1st year in the program: 4-7 hour Saturday sessions, twice per month
  • 2nd year in the program: 4-7 hour Saturday sessions, every other month
  • Assignments between sessions (~1 hour per week)
