Ross Hamilton

Associate Professor of English

Ross Hamilton, Associate Professor of English, joined the faculty of Barnard in 1996. Prior to coming to Barnard, Professor Hamilton was a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University. He was also a prize-winning teaching fellow at Yale.

Professor Hamilton's scholarly interests include the study of the metahistorical patterns seen in literature, including the shift from natural philosophy to early modern science. He has studied the manifestations and evolution of Aristotle's notion of the accidental in literature ranging from Sophocles to late twentieth-century film. Professor Hamilton is also interested in the later works of Foucault.
