All of us in ODS are delighted to welcome all of our new transfers, visiting and international students (VISP—the Visiting International Students Program)—and welcome back all of our returning students as well. We are pleased that so many of you have already been stopping by ODS in 105 Hewitt to schedule your required beginning-of-the-semester check-in meetings with either Susan Q or Okie—as well as to pick up any TAFs (Test Accommodations Forms) and Notetaker Forms as necessary. Please remember that Friday, January 28 is the deadline for all SP'11 program filing—so please do call Susan L @ 212/854-4634 to schedule your check-in meeting now! We hope that you've all had a restful and restorative intersession break—and that you are excited and energized (as are all of us in ODS) to take the plunge for a stimulating spring term. Hope to see all of you soon!
As mentioned above, please remember to complete a TAF for any course in which you expect to use any form of test accommodation (e.g. extended time) during the SP'11 term. As always, students should first complete the TAF cover sheet/s and then bring them to your required check-in meeting with either Okie or Susan Q for their required signature prior to your taking the TAF to your instructors for discussion and signature. The deadline for all TAFs is Friday, February 4 @ 4pm in ODS—with all required ODS and faculty signatures—and this term we will have a *countdown* to the deadline to assist all of you in getting your TAFs in on time!
Although the new term has just begun—it's never too early to start thinking about Barnard housing for next year! We are pleased that several of you have already completed Step #1 in the DHR process by emailing us your required personal statement which summarizes your disability and why it requires some form of disability-related housing accommodations. Res Life Operations Manager Matt Kingston sent an email out to all students this week re: the process—and this is an early reminder that the deadline for all DHRs is Wednesday, February 16 @ 4pm in ODS. Please feel free to set up a brief check-in meeting with Susan Q if you have any questions about this priority housing program.
As we all know—this has been quite a winter so far—with 20 inches of snow in December and almost weekly snow-storms over the past few weeks! Indeed—at 7am as this newsletter is being written we already have 4-5"—but let's hope it won't be too much more. For students with mobility impairments or other chronic illnesses where travel in bad weather can be arduous and challenging, please remember to use the Barnard tunnel system and make sure that you have any necessary keys or swipes (e.g. Lehman elevator key; Quad swipe access to/from Barnard Hall)—and please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you need additional access. There are also a number of access features on the CU campus as well (e.g. Dodge elevator)—and we can arrange as access tour of the CU campus with the CU ODS if that would be helpful to you. We are currently drafting a new *Tipsheet on Disability and Snow/Ice/Inclement Weather* which will be emailed to all ODS students shortly.
Happy spring semester to all — and let's all hope that it will indeed be an early spring!
