One Week Program, Residential and Commuter
Sunday, June 22, 2014 - Saturday, June 28, 2014
The Summer Science Seminar Program (S-Cubed Summer) is an initiative developed by Barnard College to encourage interest in the sciences among young women and is based on our successful Saturday Science Seminar Program that takes place in the spring.
Barnard has a tradition of excellence preparing women for careers in the sciences. Among our noteworthy alumnae are:
Helen Ranney ’41, the first woman to chair a Department of Medicine; Alison Estabrook ’74, the chief of Breast Surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, Susan Alpert ’69, current Senior Vice President, Chief Regulatory Officer for Medtronic, and Dr. Beryl Benacerraf ’71, the first woman to become clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology at Harvard Medical School.
The S-Cubed program will bring young women heading into 11th and 12th grades with interest in science and mathematics to Barnard over the course of five days in June. Classes taught in a variety of scientific disciplines by current Barnard faculty will be followed by field trips to major scientific institutions and landmarks across New York City.
2014 Courses include full-day sessions of Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science
