Quality of attention and concern for detail go into each Barnard student’s education. That commitment extends to helping families afford an education here. If you feel the cost of Barnard may be beyond your means, we urge you to apply for financial aid. We are committed to making a Barnard education affordable by offering tuition payment plans and loan options to all families and grant assistance to those that qualify for need-based aid. Barnard does not consider your financial need when making its admissions decisions.

Financial
Aid
Financial aid can help you make a Barnard education affordable. Your daughter’s eligibility for financial aid is based on demonstrated needthe difference between the cost of attending Barnard and your family resources. Your ability to pay is determined by such factors as family and student income and assets, taxes, current living costs and retirement allowances, number of dependents, and number of children in college. If your daughter qualifies for aid, she will probably be awarded a combination of a Barnard College grant, a low-interest loan, and an opportunity for on- or off-campus employment.
At Barnard, we admit students without regard to their financial needand provide admitted students who demonstrate eligibility with financial aid. Approximately 54 percent of Barnard students receive financial aid; many receive scholarships or grants. The average family income for students receiving aid directly from Barnard is $66,680. For more information on financial aid (including applications and detailed policies), visit our Financial Aid site. Payment
The website of Barnard's Bursar includes information about tuition and fees, bill payment, tax credits, and meal plan fees. You may view the current details of your daughter's account, obtain copies of any forms you might need to submit, and pay bills online.
In addition to the monthly payment plan available through Tuition Management Systems, many parents take advantage of Parent Loans (PLUS) to help manage costs. This loan is credit-based but not need-based. This means any parent with a positive credit history can borrow up to the full cost at Barnard at a reasonable fixed rate. For more information on PLUS please visit the financial aid website.
