All Barnard residence halls close at 5pm Friday, May 16, 2014.
After students have removed their belongings and cleaned their room, they will be required to complete a check out envelope at their residence hall front desk. As part of completing the check out envelope, students will be required to remove the residence hall sticker from their ID (and put it in the envelope). Students will put their room key(s) in the check out envelope and give it to the Front Desk attendant.
Please note that students who do not return their keys and/or complete a check out envelope will be charged for an improper check out ($100). Missing keys will result in an additional $25 per key charge.
Students living in suite-style residence halls will additionally be required to complete a suite checkout form (available from your RA). This form ensures that all suitemates will equally help in cleaning common areas of the suite before moving out.
Students are required to return their room to the same condition it was in when they moved in (including cleaning their room and/or moving furniture back to original positions). Residential Life & Housing staff will inspect rooms after move out to ensure that students have done so, using the Room (& Suite) Condition Reports filled out during check in. Please note that any damages and/or needed cleaning will be charged to students’ accounts.
Please take all bagged garbage to the designated areas. Garbage bags should be available on each floor. Recyclables should be taken to the normal locations for these items. Please do not use garbage bags to pack belongings and/or leave belongings in the hallway. Cleaning staff may assume that it is garbage and dispose of the items. Any garbage or items left in your room/suite will result in a cleaning fine.
Any student who fails to complete their check out by their deadline will be fined $100 per day, will be charged a minimum of $500 for their belongings to be removed from campus, and may be subject to conduct action.
Under extenuating circumstances, students may request an extension to move out at a later time / date. These extensions are extremely limited and are not automatically approved. Because extensions are not guaranteed, students should wait to arrange their travel until after their request has been approved/denied.
Approved extensions will result in a cost of $100 per day. Please note that students will need to be prepared to relocate with all of their belongings to a temporary interim room in Reid or Brooks Hall (by 5pm on Friday, May 16, 2014), in order to accommodate their approved extension (no exceptions).

Extensions cannot be approved for later than 10am on Thursday, May 22, 2014 (i.e. the deadline for graduating seniors to move out of the residence halls). Any student requesting to stay beyond May 22 would be required to apply & pay for Summer Housing.
Upon reviewing your extension request, Residential Life & Housing will contact you via email to let you know if your request was approved or denied. Please note that students who fail to move out after being denied an extension request (or who did not request an extension) will be fined $100 per day and/or a minimum of $500 for the removal of their belongings from campus and may be subject to conduct action.

Students will be assessed charges for any cleaning and/or repair of damages required.
Any cleaning or damage charges that cannot be attributable to one roommate and/or suitemate will be shared among all roommates and/or suitemates. If you have concerns about possible charges in your room, please speak to your RA and complete a Suite Check Out Form.
Students who are assessed cleaning and/or damage charges will be contacted via their Barnard email during the summer to provide them with the amount & description. Students will have a deadline, communicated in the email, before which they may submit any appeals. Students are responsible for checking their Barnard email and/or forwarding their mail to an account that they do check over the summer.
Please do not leave any cars double parked without someone in it. Unattended and/or double parked cars block others from accessing the buildings and may be ticketed or towed by NYPD.

A limited number of carts will be available for check-out from the front desk of each residence hall. A $20 CASH deposit and a photo ID is required to borrow a cart for one hour (carts returned late will result in a loss of the deposit).
Residential Life & Housing recommends the SummerStorage.org (516-729-5169) for summer storage.
If you elect to use a storage company other than SummerStorage.org, you must be present when they come to pick up your items. Vendors must be signed in at your residence halls's front desk and be escorted at all time.
Please note that there is no storage available on campus for belongings.

If you are going to be living on campus (or in the city) for the summer and wish to keep your mailbox open over the summer, you must fill out a "Keep Mailbox Open" form at the Mail Services Window in Altschul.
Each year, Barnard students donate unwanted items (clothing, food, household goods, electronics, etc) to local charities. There will be donation centers located in each residence hall during the week of final exams. Last year we were able to make large donations to the Salvation Army, a children’s art initiative, and a food shelter. Please join the EcoReps and Residential Life & Housing in this great cause by donating items.

Remember that these things are going to people who need them. THIS IS NOT TRASH! You can recycle your plastic bags at any grocery store that gives out plastic bags (Fairway and Wholefoods can usually take a large quantity).

If you rented a refrigerator from Collegiate Storage and Rentals, please make sure you are in contact with them (718-267-6484) regarding its return. They will be on campus by the Main Gates to pick up your refrigerator.
To extend rental for one or both summer sessions, please call 718-267-6484 at least 72 hours prior to return or email Info@collegiatestorageandrental.com.
Please note that refrigerators must be returned defrosted (unplug the refrigerator, open the door for at least 24 hours, and let the refrigerator defrost naturally). Under no circumstances should you chip away at ice in the fridge as the walls of the fridge are hollow and puncture easily (and will result in a fine).
Please note the Residential Life & Housing cannot give Collegiate Storage and Rentals or any other vendors access into your room. If you will not be present when they arrive to pick up rentals, you must make arrangements for a friend to have your refrigerator and turn it in.
If you signed up for cable with Time Warner Cable, you must contact them to cancel your cable TV service and to return your cable box. Residential Life & Housing cannot return your cable box for you.
