Paid Summer Housing

Students with a diagnosed-disability who need disability-related housing accommodations must submit a request to the Office of Disability Services no later than 4pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Students are required to reapply for accommodations each year/summer, even if they have received an accommodation in the past. Late requests cannot be accommodated.


Summer housing will be available in Elliott (AC), Cathedral Gardens (AC), 600 W 116th Street (non-AC), and Hewitt (non-AC) only. Please note that students in non-AC residence halls may not use window or portable AC units.

  • Students are only eligible for May Interim if they are currently living in a Barnard residence hall AND are living on the Barnard or Columbia campus for Summer Session 1 (students currently living in a CU residence hall must apply for May Interim with CU Housing). 
  • Students will be required to relocate to a temporary non-AC multiple room for May Interim before moving into their Summer room in order to enable residence hall cleaning. 
  • During May Interim, students must be available to move to their temporary and/or Summer room with a minimum of 24 hour advance notice.  Students who fail to move when required will be fined (minimum $500) to have their belongings removed from campus.
  • Students who are graduating or approved to participate in the Graduation ceremonies (and have a May 21 check out deadline) will be charged $160 for May Interim ($40 per night).  Students who are working with Alumni Affairs for Reunion may recieve free housing for May Interim, but may not recieve a discount off of Summer Session 1.
  • Only students staying for both Summer Sessions 1 & 2 will be allowed to stay in housing July 2 – 5.
  • Students are only eligible for August Interim if they live on the Barnard or Columbia campus for Summer Session 2 AND have a Fall 09 room assignment in a Barnard residence hall (students will a Fall 09 room assignment in a Columbia residence hall must apply for August Interim with CU Housing).  If you cancel your Fall housing assignment, you will cease to be eligible for August Interim housing.
  • Students will be required to relocate to a temporary non-AC multiple room for August interim before moving into their Fall room in order to enable residence hall cleaning.

  • Students who are eligible for early Fall move-in due to participation in NSOP or other approved reasons will be charged $40 per night to bridge their summer & fall housing.

Priority in assignments will be given to:

  • Barnard students currently living on-campus who are continuing in housing for Fall 2009
  • Barnard students current living off-campus who will be moving into campus housing for Fall 2009
  • Barnard residents who will not be returning to housing for Fall 2009
  • 2009 Barnard graduates
  • Columbia students and other non-affiliates

Summer room assignments for students living on campus for Summer Session 1 will be emailed to students by 5pm on Friday, May 8, 2009. Students not moving in until Summer Session 2 will receive their room assignment by Friday, June 26, 2009. Temporary room assignments for May and/or August Interim will not be given until the student checks-in.

No summer room changes will be permitted and requests for roommates and suitemates are not guaranteed.
