Using Pine to Delete Emails
- At the “$” sign, type in “Pine” and press Enter.
- Enter Pine: You will have to enter in your username and password.
- Note: Your password will not show up as you type it in.
- Open your inbox: To get to Inbox, highlight over “Folder List” like shown above and press enter.
Then highlight over “Inbox” and press enter.
- Highlight the desired message(s), press “D”, and then press “Enter”. (This will mark the email(s) as “deleted”. Note the “D” next to the message).
- You screen should look like this:
- Press “M” to return to the main menu and press “Q” to quit pine. When it asks, “Really quit pine?”, type “Y” and then press enter.
- At this point, PINE will ask if you want to "expunge the [#] deleted message from "inbox"?". Type "Y" for Yes and press enter.
- Note: "Inbox" is the folder from which I deleted an email. If you deleted messages in your "Sent" folder, it will say "Sent". Also, you MUST expunge for your quota to be freed.
Tips to Quicken the Process:
- Delete the emails that take up the most space: When you’re in the folder which you want to delete, type “$” then “Z”. This will order your emails by size.
- Delete all messages in folder: If you would like to delete all the messages in a folder, open the folder and type in “;” then type “A” for apply all. Then type in “A” again and then type “D” for delete.
