How does humor translate? Elsa Kammerer examines the first German translation of the works
of French comic genius François Rabelais. What challenges did Johann Fischart (1545–1591) face while translating the scatological and deeply political story of a giant called Gargantua? Elsa Kammerer is a professor in the department of French and comparative literature at the Université Lille III. This event is sponsored by the Barnard Center for Translation Studies, funded by the Mellon Foundation.

This lecture will be presented in French.
