Two Barnard alumnae named among 2013 PEN Literary Award Winners

PEN America has announced the winners and runners-up of the 2013 PEN Literary Awards, the most comprehensive literary awards program in the country. This year’s recipients include two Barnard alumnae:

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Katherine Boo '88 has received the PEN/John Kenneth Galbraith Award for Nonfiction. The award is in recognition of her first book Behind the Beautiful Forevers, which also received the National Book Award in 2012. The Galbraith Award recognizes the author of a distinguished book of general nonfiction possessing notable literary merit and critical perspective and illuminating important contemporary issues. Annie Tucker '02 received a PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant for her translation of Beauty Is A Wound, a novel by Indonesian writer Eka Kurniawan.
