Welcome Alumnae! Career Development is proud to offer lifelong career services to alumnae. Whether you are a recent graduate seeking support in your first professional endeavor or a seasoned professional seeking guidance in a career transition, we can help.
Career Counseling sessions are offered in person or via phone or Skype, thus ensuring that all Barnard alumnae, regardless of their location in the world can access counseling services. Counseling sessions are as varied as Barnard women. Some sessions involve developing job search strategies for an alumna who has been absent from the workforce for a significant period of time. Other sessions focus on career exploration and planning a transition from one field to another. Still other sessions require brainstorming about how to negotiate a healthy work/life balance. Basically, whatever career issues are facing you, we will partner with you to address them so that you can achieve the best possible outcome.
Careers are often researched in terms of economic potential and prestige that could be garnered from them. Sometimes careers aren't researched at all and people just fall into jobs. Neither of these methods are likely to lead to a satisfying and fulfilling career. Career research should always begin with an in depth and thorough assessment of one's self including, interests, skills, values and personality. To this end, we offer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory at a cost of only $15 per assessment for alumnae. The integration of these assessments and subsequent research will result in an informed decision about the next step in your career.
