Based on fieldwork among Catholic Latin American migrants (mostly women caregivers) and religious orders in Rome, Valentina Napolitano argues that current Latin American migration to Italy is an Atlantic Return from the Americas that holds the possibility for rejuvenation of the Catholic Church, while also generating anxieties over its possible pollution. Associate professor of anthropology and the director of Latin American Studies at the University of Toronto, Valentina Napolitano’s newest project is Bordering Madonnas and the New Evangelization at the US/ Mexico Border and in Palestine. This event is co-sponsored with Columbia University’s Institute of Latin American Studies.
