Barnard research on mothers in academia noted in The Wall Street Journal

In The Wall Street Journal's coverage of a new study of parents in academia, research by Toddler Center director and professor of psychology Tovah Klein is noted.  An excerpt:

"Research last year from Barnard College suggested that the timing of the tenure track can be particularly tough on mothers. The tenure system, which safeguards the jobs of proven professors, is essentially a ticking clock that gives aspiring professors a finite time to compile the credentials required to win tenure. Professors who take time off for family fear losing out on tenure."

Prof. Klein's research examines parenting, the impact of trauma on young children, and toddler play.  She is a developmental advisor for Sesame Street and serves on the advisory boards for Room to Grow, Rawanda Educational Assistance Project and NYC Voices of Childhood.
