Troubleshooting

  • Machine not working
    If a Ricoh becomes inoperable and displays a service code, first try to restart the machine with a “cold” reboot. Turn the Ricoh off using the power switch on the side of the machine—usually under a plastic flap. Leave it off for 30 seconds and then power back on. If the copier still does not work and the code reappears, copy down the code and put in a service request by calling 854-2087 or emailing Print Services.
  • Symptom: line across  the copy when using the Automatic Document Feeder
    Check to see if you get a similar line when making a copy off the glass. If that copy is clean, there is a piece of dirt or white-out on the thin scanning glass. Clean the narrow glass strip with a lint-free cloth or towel. Print Services also provides a special cleaning liquid which you may pick up at 13 Milbank for no cost. When using a cleaning liquid, moisten the cloth. Never put liquid directly on the glass.

    If a line appears when copying from the glass, please call or email Print Services with a description of the problem. Be sure to inform us that you have tested from the Document Feeder and the glass.
  • I installed my print driver, but still cannot print.
    Make sure you entered your Ricoh user code in the Valid Access tab. Windows users: refer to Print Driver Installation instructions.  Macintosh users: verify that your Ricoh User Code is enabled and entered in the Job Log pull down menu.
  • Clearing paper jams
    Please clear all jams following the diagrams on the machine doors and/or onscreen display. Always turn knobs as indicated to release the jammed paper first. Otherwise, the jammed paper will tear and be more difficult to clear.
  • Missing email address book when scanning
    Turn your Ricoh off using the power switch on the side of the machine—usually under a plastic flap. Leave it off for 30 seconds and then power back on. Check to see if address book appears in scanning mode. If not, call or email Print Services.
  • Detail menu disappears from screen
    Symptom: When you log onto copy mode, there are fewer menu choices than usual. To fix, press the Simplified Display button, which toggles between two display modes.
  • Storing and loading paper
    Flat dry paper will run best through the copier. Store paper in sealed reams. Do not store on end or hang off the edge of a shelf.

    All paper has a slight natural curl that is visible when holding the paper by the end. Load the paper curl side down in the paper trays. Do not fill past the lines showing the maximum amount of paper for the tray.
