Barnard Finance Focus (BFF) is a preparatory program designed to strengthen finance knowledge, gain confidence and get ahead of the interview process.  Participation in this program will bolster your chances of receiving an internship and /or full-time job offer in the industry.

You will recieve information and training designed to strengthen financial knowledge, gain confidence, be prepared for the interview process and have the opportunity to network with financial institutions. Presentations by Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Citi, JP Morgan Chase and BMO Capital Markets are part of the first day agenda.

Program Goals:

  • Learn about the different divisions of a full-service financial institution
  • Learn Financial Statement Modeling, and Discounted Cash Flow Analysis
  • Prep for entry level finance position interviews
  • Prep for a summer internship and first year on Wall Street
  • Develop skills that can be applied in a wide array of future jobs and careers
  • Craft an effective resume and cover letter

 

Eligibility:

Applicants will be selected based on the following qualifications:

  • Current sophomore or junior
  • A minimum of 3.3 GPA
  • Demonstrated interest in finance
  • Strong application

  • Friday, September 16, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Friday,  September 23rd, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Friday, September 16th: 

  • Presentations by Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Citi and JP Morgan Chase
  • Divisions represented: Wealth and Asset Management, Sales and Trading, Capital Markets, Investment Banking & Mergers, and Acquisitions
  • Resume review and mock interviews - BMO Capital Markets

  • Class Room Instruction by Wall Street Prep, Introduction to the Finance Industry and Valuation.
  • 9:00- 10:30 Accounting in Excel
  • 10:30-11:30 Overview of Valuation
  • 11:30- 1:00  Discounted Cash Flow Analysis
  • 2:30-5:00    Structure of Financial Markets Taught by Abe Mastbaum   (With over 25 years of professional experience in tax and capital markets Abe has lectured extensively on Capital Markets, Derivative Securities, Yield Curve Analysis, Structured Finance/Asset Backed Securities, Foreign Exchange Markets, Financial Statement Analysis, and Securities Regulation)

Commitments:

Successful completion of the program includes but is not limited to:

  1. Attend all of the training.
  2. Business attire
  3. Attend site visits hosted by the sponsoring employers.
  4. Submit a professional resume to Career Development for resume book, which will be distributed to sponsoring employers.
  5. Participate in the networking events with sponsoring employers.
  6. Be prompt and on time each day of the training.
  7. Actively engage in the coursework as well as learn the information and materials presented.
  8. Ask questions and for additional instruction when unsure of the material presented.
  9. Adhere to all instructions and deadlines associated with the training.
  10. Maintain professionalism in interactions with instructors, employers, BCD staff and peers.
  11. Keep an updated and accurate profile; upload resume and other materials in NACElink on an ongoing basis.
  12. Respond to post-program surveys and follow-up.
