How to Transfer my gBear Emails
**Please note that “sharing” your gBear Google Drive contents with another gmail account will not retain the data for you, you must transfer it.
“Forwarding” mail will not continue to forward after your gBear account is deactivated on August 1st.
Once an account is “deactivated” Barnard no longer has access to your data, no exceptions. Please see our IT Account Management Policy for more details.
Before beginning to transfer your gBear emails and content to any other email address be sure to setup your new Alumnae email first if you decided to do so.
We are currently advising Alums to use the Google Transfer and Takeout features listed below:
Google Takeout Transfer allows users to migrate their email content, from their Barnard account to a personal/alum Google account. Because files are copied, they will NOT be deleted from the Barnard gBear account, so it’s safe to do this process anytime.
- Best option for those wanting to “transfer” their emails without having to save and then import.
- You can also use this feature to transfer your Google Drive data. Please be sure to clean up and delete any unnecessary files from your Drive prior to transferring as you will only be able to transfer 15GB of your data.
Google Takeout allows users of Google products, such as YouTube and Gmail, to export their data to a downloadable archive file. Google Takeout lists 51 kinds of data, including Drive, contacts, photos, Google Keep notes, Gmail, and bookmarks.
- This includes any type of data, including emails and drive contents, but it creates an archived file that must be saved and then imported into the personal/alum account
Once you have completed this process your emails will begin to transfer from your gBear to the designated account. You will not see all of your emails populate instantly, this process takes a while depending on how many emails you are transferring. We suggest you begin this process well before the January deadline to ensure that you have a successful and complete transfer of data.
