New Student Information

Welcome to Barnard!

Get acquainted with the available technology resources, learn how to activate and access accounts, and prepare for your arrival on campus. Here are some important things to be aware of and to do before arriving on campus. 

Security Alert: Barnard Will Never Ask For Your Password

Every Barnard student is responsible for their own school accounts. Your account password is sensitive information. So, it is crucial that you remember it and that you do not share it via email or any other method. Barnard will NEVER ask students for confidential information via email. Therefore, never send sensitive information such as passwords, birth dates, and social security numbers to anyone via email, even if the source claims to be affiliated with Barnard College.

Acceptable Use of Barnard IT Services

With access to your Barnard account, any use of Barnard networks, systems, or services is governed by the Barnard Policy on Computer Use. In addition to this policy, sharing of unauthorized copyrighted material is strictly prohibited. Please review both policies and get acquainted with the expectations of computer use across Barnard.

Account Activation Information

Activate your Barnard Account
  • Create a password
  • Setup Multifactor Authentication via DUO
  • Access your Barnard email (gBear)
  • Access the Barnard OneLogin Dashboard for all Barnard Applications

 

Barnard Accounts for the class of 2028 should be available for activation by the end of May 2024. All incoming first year and transfer/visiting students will receive an email from BCIT with information about how to retrieve their login/password once their accounts are ready to be activated, approximately two weeks after sending their response and deposit to Barnard.

 

STEP 1 - Verify your identity via your personal email address

  1. Go to the Password Self Service System
  2. Click I know my password
  3. In the Username field, enter your UNI and click OK. Your UNI is provided by Barnard College Admissions in the Account Credentials email sent to your personal email address.
  4. Click on Personal Email; an authentication code will be sent directly to your personal email.
  5. Check your personal email for the 6-digit Authentication Verification Code.  The code is valid for 6 minutes.  (Please click Send new code if the code expires.)
  6. Enter the 6-digit code and click Confirm.
  7. You have entered the code successfully when the system accepts it and returns you to the identity services screen. 

STEP 2 - Enter your temporary password & set your new permanent password

  1. At the list of identity services, click Windows Identity.
  2. Enter the temporary password and click OK.  The temporary password is provided by Barnard College Admissions in the Account Credentials email sent to your personal email address.
  3. Enter a new password that meets the password requirements listed in the screen.  Once you have entered a new valid password, click OK.
  4. The password screen will indicate 'Success' when you have successfully created a new password.

STEP 3 - Install the Duo Mobile App and Enroll in Duo

  1. On your cell phone or tablet, download and install the Duo Mobile app from the Google Android Play Store or Apple App store. 
  2. On your computer go to barnard.onelogin.com; you will be prompted for your Barnard username and password (use the new password created in Step 2)
  3. Once you enter your username and password,  you will be prompted to enroll in Duo. Follow the onscreen prompts as follows: 
      > Click on Start Setup > Mobile phone > Continue > 
      > Input your cell phone number and check the box that this is the correct phone number. Continue >
          > Select Mobile Phone > Continue >
      > Select: I have Duo Mobile>
  4. Activate through the app on your cellphone and follow the instructions.  Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone, click on the plus sign (+) in the top right corner of the app and then scan the barcode or use the verification code sent to your phone. This will create a Barnard profile in the Duo mobile app.
      > Then click Continue on the computer screen.  
  5. It is recommended you setup automatic pushes to your device by selecting "Automatically send this device a Duo Push". At the Duo Security window, click on ‘Send Me a Push’. You can choose to check ‘Remember me for 12 hours’ to stay logged in. 
  6. The Duo Push notification will show up on your phone screen. Tap where indicated to view the available actions: Approve or Deny. Select Approve.  If the phone screen does not automatically display the Duo push authentication prompt, please open the Duo mobile app to approve the authentication request.

DONE!

Now that you have setup a permanent password and enrolled in Duo, you will be able to use your Barnard credentials to access college computing resources.  You will no longer need your personal email address for future account logons as Duo will be used to verify your identity.  If you need to reset your password or unlock your account, please refer to the Barnard Password Self Service page.

Access your Barnard account

Once you have successfully completed the steps above, you should be logged into Barnard's OneLogin dashboard (barnard.onelogin.com) with your new password to ensure you are able to access all content available to students. (If you don't see all of the icons on your dashboard, click on "Company:Everything" under the search bar and you should see all applications you have access to.)

Activate your Columbia UNI
  • Visit the CUIT Account Activation page for steps on how to activate your Columbia UNI
  • Access Courseworks
  • Log onto campus lab computers
  • Activate PawPrint printing services to print on campus using your printing quota (You MUST login at least 1 hour prior to sending your first print job)
  • Access Online Catalog for Columbia Libraries (CLIO)

Mandatory Computer Setup

Mandatory Computer Setup provides your computer with the necessary security requirements to connect to our wireless network when you arrive on campus.

There are some steps that you can take before arriving on campus to ensure that your computer will be as safe as possible from viruses and other malicious programs. However, if you feel you need assistance, please visit Student Computing during NSOP.
