Schedule An Interview
Update for Fall 2021 Applicants
Barnard is offering all interviews for prospective first-year students applying for Fall 2021 admission virtually. For more information, please see our Request a Virtual Interview page.
Prospective first-year applicants seeking Fall 2020 admission are welcome to schedule an optional admissions interview. Interviews allow our admissions committee to get to know you beyond your written application. While the interview is both informational and evaluative in nature, in its essence, it is merely a conversation. It provides us an opportunity to learn about your curiosities, your interests, and why you feel Barnard is a great fit. For you, it is an opportunity to sit down with a member of the Barnard admissions team (which could be an admissions counselor, a senior interviewer or an alumna) and get your questions answered during a personal, one-on-one interaction. The interview lasts about 20-30 minutes and will be considered in our application review. Interviews are offered between June and mid-December.
Interviews are completely optional. Students who choose not to interview or are unable to secure an interview appointment will not jeopardize their application evaluation in any way. Interviews are not offered for transfer/visiting applicants.
Interviews are available on-campus for prospective first-year applicants seeking Fall 2020 admission only, Monday through Friday, from June through mid-December. Weekend interviews may also be available on select dates during the fall semester. If you wish to interview, do not wait until you submit your application before scheduling an appointment! Our interview slots fill up quickly, with no waiting list. We recommend scheduling an appointment at least three weeks in advance. Please note again that interviews are optional, and that interviews are not available for transfer applicants.
Please note: Interviews for Early Decision candidates must be completed by Nov 1st to be considered.
Off-campus Alumnae Interviews
If you are unable to travel to campus, you may choose to arrange an off-campus interview with a trained alumna interviewer in your local area. Alumnae interviews take place between mid-September and December and are available only to students who live outside the tri-state metropolitan area (New York [New York City & the boroughs, Long Island, Westchester & Putnam Counties], New Jersey, and Connecticut). Students who live too far for an in-person interview with an alumna may be scheduled for a phone or Skype interview. Due to limited availability, students should register for an interview early. Students are permitted to schedule one interview each, either on-campus or with an alumna representative. Registration for alumnae interviews will begin in late-August to early September. Once you have submitted your request, you can expect to receive further information about your alumna match within a few weeks.

InitialView interviews for China and South Korea
For students in China and South Korea, we often have far fewer alumnae interviewers than we have requests. Additionally, the time difference between the United States and Asia further complicates our ability to offer Skype interviews, so we have connected with the organization below to offer comprehensive and convenient interviews. For one fee, they will send your interview video/report to all of the colleges on your list. If you are concerned that fees would present a hardship for you and your family, please do not hesitate to contact us for an alternate solution.
