Passwords Around The College
Although the College is moving towards a unified authentication system, at this time there are still some services that use different passwords for access. The most common include:
- Barnard Account (gBear, eBear, faculty and staff computers, wireless network)
- Columbia UNI (for Courseworks, NINJa printing, and Columbia-specific resources)
- Colleague (the administrative ERP system)
Your Barnard Account username and password is used for access to gBear (email, calendar, and groups), the Barnard Secure wireless network, most faculty and staff desktop computers, and eBear.
For new faculty and staff, this account is created at the time of hire. The username and initial password is sent to the Provost’s Office (for faculty) and to Human Resources (for staff).

You can set up a few security questions so that if you forget or need to change your Barnard Account password, you can reset it yourself online from home, over the weekend, or even at 3 in the morning! It takes just four easy steps!
Of course, faculty and staff may always visit the BCIT Service Desk (1st floor Lehman), Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and we'll be happy to change your Barnard Account password for you. Students should visit Student Computing Services in 307 Diana. Please be sure to bring your Barnard ID.
Step 1: After logging into myBarnard, click on the Administration tab (faculty & staff) or Student Services tab (students).
Step 2: Click on "Barnard Password Self Service" under "myTechTools" on the right side of the screen.
