Passwords Around The College
Although the College is moving towards a unified authentication system, at this time there are still some services that use different passwords for access. The most common include:
- Barnard Account (gBear, myBarnard, faculty and staff computers, ServiceNow, wireless network)
- Columbia UNI (for student lab computers, Courseworks, PawPrint printing, and Columbia-specific resources)
- Colleague (the administrative ERP system)
For other applications, if you do not know how to reset your password, contact the BCIT Service Desk for redirection.
Your Barnard Account username and password is used for access to gBear (email, calendar, and groups), the Barnard Secure wireless network, faculty and staff desktop computers, and myBarnard.
For new faculty and staff, this account is created at the time of hire. The username is sent to Human Resources to be given to the new hire; initial password can be set by the user with default data in the self-service reset tool at password.barnard.edu.
Self-Service Password Reset For Your Barnard Account
You can set up a few security questions so that if you forget your Barnard Account password, you can reset it yourself anywhere or anytime, without needing to contact BCIT. To set up your self-service questions, go to password.barnard.edu, click on "Register for password self-service", and log in with your current username and password. Follow the on-screen directions to choose questions and the answers to them.
Once you have set up your security questions, you can reset your Barnard Account password whenever you need to. Simply go to password.barnard.edu and click "Forgot your password?" Once you successfully answer the questions you chose previously, you'll be able to set a new password.
If you forgot your answers to the security questions:
- Faculty and Staff -- Come to the BCIT Service Desk (Milbank 13). Please be sure to bring your Barnard ID.
- Students -- Come to 307 Diana. Please be sure to bring your Barnard ID.
Columbia UNI passwords are administered by CUIT. You can reset your UNI password online if you have lost it by going to http://uni.columbia.edu. (You will need the nine-digit number on the back of your Barnard ID card).
Colleague (Datatel) accounts and passwords are on a separate authentication system. If you forget your Colleague password, you will need to contact the BCIT Service Desk for assistance.
