Community Service

BSAC is committed to serving the greater Harlem and NYC communities through service projects, often in collaboration with the Morningside Area Alliance or Columbia Community Service. Please keep an eye on this page for announcements and further details about upcoming opportunities to give back.

Coat Drive (Dec. 3 - Dec. 21):

BSAC invites staff to participate in our first annual Coat Drive, in support of the 30th Annual New York Cares Coat Drive. We will be collecting clean, gently used coats starting Monday, December 3rd.  Donation boxes are located in Barnard Hall Lobby, Milbank Hall Lobby (near Admissions), and Diana Center Lobby (near Liz's Place). Our goal is to collect 100 items. We hope you'll join us in giving some warmth to the Morningside neighborhood during this holiday season!

Past Initiatives

Food Drive - Fall 2018
First annual BSAC Season of Giving Food Drive in support of Broaway Presbyterian Church, our Morningside Heights neighbor serving community members in need. The Barnard Community donated 357 food items just in time for Thanksgiving! Thank you to all who donated!

Coat & Clothing Drive - Spring 2018
A coat and clothing drive, conducted in partnership with Columbia Community Service, took place in Spring 2018. BSAC is thrilled to announce that the Barnard community donated 1,058 articles of clothing, which were distributed to the Riverside Language Program (serving new immigrants and refugees) and Cathedral Community Cares (a neighborhood clothing closet for the needy and those returning to the workforce). Thank you to all who participated!
