As the first openly gay speaker, she has focused extensively on issues of justice and equality, and more specifically, has been a fierce advocate for LGBT rights. During her tenure, she has become known for responding to the needs of New Yorkers with transparency and accountability, and for finding creative solutions to the problems at hand.
