Women Poets at Barnard: Dawn Lundy Martin and Anne Waldman

Dawn Lundy Martin is the author of three books of poetry, including Life in a Box Is a Pretty Life, which investigates the ways in which language claims absolute knowledge and draws a box around lived experience. Martin’s poems “are necessary, and hot on the eye” (Fanny Howe). She is a founding member of the Black Took Collective, a group of experimental black poets, and teaches at the University of Pittsburgh.

Anne Waldman is the author of more than 40 collections of poetry and poetics, including the recent Voice's Daughter of a Heart Yet to Be Born, which juxtaposes “lyric arcana, journalism, critical fragments, visions of mythic and mystic beings, narrative, polemics, and even ekphrasis,” creating “a work that is simultaneously jeremiad and psalm” (Lyn Hejinian). She is a co-founder, with Allen Ginsberg, of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University.
