Barnard President Debora L. Spar announced the appointment of Bret Silver as Vice President for Development, beginning June 15, 2011.  He will be responsible for directing all of Barnard’s fundraising efforts, including leading its upcoming capital campaign, and extending the reach of the College to alumnae and friends.

Silver hails from Jazz at Lincoln Center, where he currently serves as Chief External Relations Officer and is responsible for all fundraising, communications, and marketing efforts. Prior to joining Jazz, Silver was part of the lead development team at the Whitney Museum of American Art. After earning a B.A. in history from Colgate University, Silver began his career at Carnegie Hall, where, over the course of eleven years, he held a wide variety of marketing and development positions.

“I have no doubt that the College will benefit greatly from Bret’s many experiences as a key member of three distinguished New York institutions,” said President Spar.

The announcement comes on the heels of the College’s annual Scholarship Dinner and Auction, which this year raised a record-breaking $2.2 million for the financial aid program at Barnard, recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s “Most Generous” colleges.
