Beyond Barnard's Peer Career Advisors are trained to meet individually with students and to present on a range of topics related to career exploration and preparation, along with application materials, interviews, and internship/job search strategies. For many students at Barnard, a meeting with Peer Career Advisors is one of their first interactions with Beyond Barnard. Get to know this year's staff, and come by to introduce yourself!
Julia Tecotzky '21
Hello! My name is Julia and I am a junior at Barnard majoring in Political Science and concentrating in American Government. Last summer, I explored the realm of public defense as a Family & Criminal Defense Intern at Brooklyn Defender Services. As a pre-law student, the opportunity to work alongside attorneys and clients both in and out of court was extremely valuable and taught me a great deal about the criminal justice system. Beyond Barnard was instrumental in giving me the tools and resources to secure and thrive in this internship as well as others, and has helped me make many connections in the professional world. My goal as a Peer Career Advisor is to empower students to feel confident in their professional endeavors and engage in meaningful, passionate work. In addition to being a Peer Career Advisor, I am a Health Educator with the Barnard/Columbia Peer Health Exchange, where I teach health classes to NYC high school students. I can also be found attempting to make loaves of homemade sourdough. I’m looking forward to meeting and connecting with the Barnard community!Hello! Hello! My name is Tina Barrios, and I am a junior from Miami, Florida. At Barnard, I am double majoring in Economics and Social History and Spanish Language and Cultures. In addition to working as a Peer Career Advisor, I am involved in student government as the chair of Barnard McAC’s Action Committee, where we plan service-related events and make Barnard traditions happen. This past summer, I interned at Empire Global Ventures, a consulting firm in New York, where I did market research and learned from amazing mentors across different fields.
Although the internship and job markets can be stressful, Beyond Barnard has given me the confidence and skills challenge myself to pursue any opportunity, and I hope to be able to pass that confidence along to other students as a Peer Career Advisor!Hello! Hi I’m Sophie, and I’m a senior majoring in Sociology and minoring in Education Studies. This past summer, I interned at a college access nonprofit in my hometown, Portland, Oregon. Beyond Barnard has been such a helpful resource for me, especially during my first year at Barnard when I was new to writing resumes/cover letters and applying to jobs. My name is Izzy and I'm a senior here at Barnard. I'm majoring in English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in education studies. Beyond Barnard has shown me that there is so much more to job searching than just having a good resume, especially when it comes to the amazing network of Barnard students and alum who want to help each other succeed. As a PCA, I love getting the chance to connect with my peers individually, and I'm excited to start advising again!

Hi! My name is Alaina and I’m a senior at Barnard majoring in Comparative Literature and minoring in Psychology. When I transferred to Barnard last year, I realized that I was simultaneously a junior and a freshman— while I was new to Barnard, I also had to have the mindset of an upperclassman beginning to look beyond college. Beyond Barnard was integral in helping me learn about the resources available to me while also helping me think about life after college!
Through Beyond Barnard, I’ve discovered my passion for law and legal reform and I’m beginning to formulate my future around a career in transactional law with an emphasis on pro bono work. I’m looking forward to connecting with fellow Barnard students to help them discover their passions and translate those passions into achievable goals!
