The following email was sent to the Barnard community on October 15, 2019:
Dear Barnard Community,
I am writing with news that Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rob Goldberg will be announced today as Pomona College’s vice president, COO, and treasurer effective January 1, 2020. We are grateful for Rob’s leadership over the past six years, during which time he served not only as Barnard’s COO but also as Interim President of the College during the 2016-17 academic year.
COO Goldberg joined the College in 2014, after serving many years in the federal government. As Barnard’s COO, Rob has been an excellent steward of the College’s finances and has overseen the physical transformation of our campus. Rob led the design and construction process for the Milstein Center, which opened in 2018 on schedule and on budget. Rob was also instrumental in the College’s recent acquisition of “121,” our new residence hall intended to meet the growing demand for campus housing.
During his time at Barnard, Rob worked closely with students, faculty, and staff on a number of key issues. Among his many collaborations, Rob worked with students to implement the no-fee laundry program in our residence halls to help reduce student out-of-pocket expenses. He partnered with faculty to ensure greater budget transparency and worked with staff to create a yearlong management development program for new managers.
We are fortunate to be in a position where we have strong leadership and staff within the finance and operations areas. As such, moving forward, the COO’s portfolio will be divided into two areas of responsibility — one focusing on finance and human resources and a second focusing on facilities and IT. Eileen DiBenedetto (Vice President for Finance) will serve as Interim Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance. Roger Mosier (Vice President for Campus Services) will serve as Interim Vice President for Operations. Both Eileen and Roger will join my senior leadership group as we evaluate the appropriate leadership structure for these two areas moving forward. I look forward to working with them in these new roles, assisted by their dedicated staff, who carry on the work of the College with compassion, professionalism, and expertise.
