With heartfelt sadness, Barnard College and the Barnard Center for Toddler Development (Toddler Center) mourn the loss of Patricia Henderson Shimm, who died on December 7, 2018.

Pat, as she was lovingly known to all, was the founding teacher and associate director of the Barnard Toddler Center since 1972. Each and every day, for more than 45 years, she demonstrated her unparalleled commitment to toddlers, parents, and Barnard students, sharing her wisdom, heart, and laughter at every turn.  She will be deeply missed by the countless children and families whose lives she touched, and the many students who learned from her. We will continue her profound legacy in our work with the toddlers she adored and will hear her laughter as we marvel in the everyday moments of toddlers. Pat is survived by her children, Joseph (Yoko), Peter (Monique), Amy (Aaron), and six grandchildren. Barnard honors the memory of this wonderful woman and extends its deepest sympathies to her entire family.
