Dear Members of the Barnard Community,
Yesterday, President Trump announced new restrictions on travel to the United States as a replacement for his previous executive order in March. Each of eight countries—Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Chad, North Korea, and Venezuela—will face some type of restriction.
While we assess the implications of the new restrictions and how they may affect our community, I want to remind you about today’s presentations by immigration law expert David Ware. Any member of the community who wishes to attend one of the presentations is welcome, regardless of whether you have previously responded:
- 11:45 am to 12:45 pm, 328 Milbank
- 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, 328 Milbank
In addition to these presentations, individual meetings with Mr. Ware are available this afternoon (email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule). Also, members of the community who have questions may set up an initial legal consultation, free of charge, with immigration counsel. Students should work through Dean Wendy Garay at email@example.com, faculty through Dean Giorgio DiMauro at firstname.lastname@example.org, and staff through HR’s Robin Beltzer at email@example.com.
Other resources are listed online.
Barnard is committed to doing everything we can to support our international students, scholars, and other community members affected by these and other federal actions. We will update you on the potential impact of the newly announced travel restrictions as more information becomes available.
