Eduardo Moncada, Assistant Professor of Political Science, has been awarded a 2018-19 Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) to support a research project entitled "Social Resistance to Criminal Protection Rackets in Latin America." Based on fieldwork in Colombia, El Salvador, and Mexico, this project identifies the different reasons why business firms resist extortion by criminal groups in dramatically different ways, from quiet negotiation to violent rebellion. Prof. Moncada will use the ACLS Fellowship to conduct additional fieldwork and develop a book and articles based on his research findings.
