On Saturday, October 7, the FIERMAN gallery featured Professor of Anthropology Paige West in conversation with Canadian sculptor Kelly Jazvac at the artist's exhibition Rock Record and launch of her new book Kelly Jazvac: Plastiglomerates. As the FIERMAN explains, the focus of Jazvac's exhibition is on her ready-made pieces of plastiglomerate, a hybrid stone produced when plastic debris melts and fuses with naturally-found sediment such as sand, shells, rock, and wood. This sculptural work asks questions about the anthropocene, a major topic of Prof. West's teaching and writing.
