Barnard’s Summer Pre-College Program offers a number of scholarship awards each program to residents and commuters. All scholarships are based on financial need and are made on a rolling basis. All applicants intending to apply for financial aid must apply by Saturday, March 23, 2019
(A discount is available for daughters of Barnard College faculty and staff. Please check with BC HR for more information. )
Please note that the application fee is waived for those who apply before January 17th. From January 17th to February 17th the fee will be $35, after which it will increase to $75 until the application deadline.
Students who wish to be considered for financial aid must also submit a scholarship application and other necessary materials (outlined below) in addition to their program application. Decisions regarding scholarships will be released on a rolling basis with your admissions decision.
You must be a permanent resident or U.S. citizen to apply for a scholarship. If you are working with and/or receiving additional aid from a community-based organization (CBO), please note this on your application form where indicated. We do not offer fee waivers to any other applicants.
Barnard's policy for determining the financial need of students from divorced or separated families is based on the general principle that parents are responsible for the post-secondary education of their children to the extent that they are financially able. Divorce or separation of the natural parents does not absolve either parent from this obligation. If a parent is remarried, the financial circumstances of the entire new family unit are considered pertinent to the natural parent's ability to contribute to the cost of a Barnard education.
You should also speak with your high school guidance counselor about other sources of financial support that may be available.
To be considered for a scholarship, we must receive the following:
1) your completed Summer Program Application including transcript , letters of recommendation, and required application fee;
2) the Need-Based Scholarship Application Form
3) a signed copy of the parents’ and guardian's 2017 federal income tax (including all pages and schedules)
4) a cover letter stating any significant changes in circumstances for your 2018 tax return, such as a loss of job, move to a new residence, or new job;
5) all applicable W-2(s).
Please note, after students have submitted their program application, they will have the option to submit the above materials to be considered for financial aid. ALL of the required materials must be emailed to Jessica Risolo, Senior Programs Assistant, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please list the student's first and last name and the program they are applying to in the email subject line.
If you are a staff member of a Community Based Organization and have questions about summer partnerships, please contact us by December 17, 2018.
