2019-2020 Academic Year RA Application

Your application will only be accepted if you attend one of the mandatory RA Information Sessions.

A full application consists of:

Your current resume (in PDF format), uploaded when you complete the application above Due Friday, December 21, 2018, 9am**
A recommendation from a current Barnard RA Due Friday, January 25, 2019, 9am

** Students who are studying abroad Spring 2019 must submit their application by Friday, Dec 7, 2018 at 12pm and email RASelection@barnard.edu to schedule an interview.

Essay Questions

Please complete these essays in preparation for the RA Application:

1) Why are you applying to be a Resident Assistant? Which aspects of the position will you find exciting? Which aspects of the position will you find challenging? Please limit your response to 200 words or fewer and be sure to answer all aspects of the question.

2) Explain the personal qualities, abilities or strengths you would bring to the Residential Life & Housing Staff. Please limit your response to 200 words or fewer and be sure to answer all aspects of the question.

3) The RA position is a job that should be the first priority following academic course commitments. Please list all anticipated commitments (campus organizations, work, internship, etc.) for the 2019-2020 academic year and include the amount of time per week allocated for each. Please give specific examples of how you plan to organize your time in order to prioritize the RA job over these additional commitments. Please limit your response to 200 words or fewer and be sure to answer all aspects of the question.

3) The summer RA position allows for RAs to work an outside internship. However, all RAs (regardless of placement in Summer School housing, Pre-College Programs, or Opportunity Programs) are expected to be available during evening and weekend hours for programming and on-call responsibilities.

Please describe all summer 2019 internships, time commitments and vacations you have planned. Please give specific examples of how you plan to organize your time in order to prioritize the RA job over these additional commitments. Please limit your response to 200 words or fewer and be sure to answer all aspects of the question.
