Barnard / Columbia Housing Exchange

Barnard Students Living at Columbia

Barnard students who register fo the Columbia Room Selection process (to join a group for the CU Lottery or to live in Greek or Special Interest Housing) *MUST* also register for Barnard Room Selection.

Only rising-Seniors (who are eligible for Barnard Room Selection) may register as part of groups in the Columbia Suite Selection process. For more information and the registration process, visit the Columbia Room Selection webpage.

(Rising-Juniors & -Sophomores may live in Columbia Greek & Special Interest units, but may not take part in the Columbia Housing Lottery. Barnard students may not be RA or ODS pull-ins or "riders" at Columbia, regardless of class year.)

There is a "cap" on the number of Barnard students who may be pulled into suites at Columbia. The number is equal to the number of CC & SEAS students who are pulled-in to suites during the Barnard Housing Lottery (and any CU students pulled into Barnard RA suites or selected for Special Interest Housing at Barnard) minus the number of Barnard students pulled into CU Special Interest Housing & CU Greek housing for next year. This number varies from year to year and is dependent on the number of students who register for Room Selection.

All students who wish to participate in Columbia Suite Selection MUST register for Barnard Room Selection as well. That way, if you are not able to select at CU, you will have had an opportunity to pick a backup room at Barnard (additionally, you must sign a Housing Contract as part of the Barnard registration process).

If you register with a group for Columbia Suite Selection, you may not select at Barnard in the 4/5/6 Lottery (i.e. selecting suites in 4-, 5-, or 6-person groups). You will have to wait for the 1/2/3 Lottery and may only select as a individual (not as part of a 2- or 3-person group).

Barnard students who select into rooms at Columbia will be required to sign a Barnard Housing Contract (as Barnard will be responsible for billing you for your room). Barnard students living in Columbia housing are charged the Barnard upperclass room rate, not the Columbia room rate.

Barnard students who live at Columbia through the BC/CU Housing Exchange remain eligible for Barnard Room Selection in the future, as long as they do not cancel their campus housing or take a leave of absence.
