Applications must be submitted online no later than 4pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

For information about applying for College-Subsidized Summer Housing, please visit Subsidized Housing.

Priority will be determined by date of application, class year, and housing status as follows:

  • Barnard students currently living on-campus who will also be living on campus for Fall 2014
  • Barnard students currently living off-campus who will be moving into campus housing for Fall 2014
  • Barnard students who will not be living in campus housing for Fall 2014
  • 2014 Barnard Graduates

Periods & Interim Housing

Summer housing is available for the following time periods:

  • Summer Session 1 – 10am on Monday, May 26, through 12noon on Friday, July 4, 2014
  • Summer Session 2 – 10am on Sunday, July 6, through 5pm on Friday, August 8, 2014

Students who are signed up for both Summer Session 1 and 2 may remain in housing between the two sessions (i.e. 12noon on Friday, July 4, through 10am on Sunday, July 6, 2014).

Housing may also be available (see below) for the following interim periods:

  • May Interim – 5pm on Friday, May 16, through 5pm on Monday, May 26, 2014
  • August Interim – 5pm on Friday, August 8, through 9am on August 30, 2014

MAY INTERIM

Students may only apply for May Interim housing if they are currently living in a Barnard residence hall for the Spring 2014 semester and are signed up for Summer Session 1 housing on either the Barnard or Columbia campus. Students living in a Columbia residence hall for the Spring 2014 semester must apply for May Interim Housing with CU Housing Services.

May Interim is intended to provide housing for students who live too far away from campus to go home and/or cannot arrange housing off-campus. Because students will be required to move to a temporary room and/or their summer room when required by Residential Life & Housing, May Interim is not intended to provide storage space for students’ belongings so they may leave campus.

AUGUST INTERIM

Students may only apply for August Interim housing if they are living in a Barnard or Columbia residence hall for Summer Session 2 and have a Fall 2014 housing assignment in a Barnard residence hall. Students who will be living in a Columbia residence hall (including Barnard students participating in the BC/CU Housing Exchange) must apply for August Interim Housing with CU Housing Services. Students who cancel their Fall housing assignment will cease to be eligible for August Interim housing.

Students must have paid their Fall 2014 semester bill in full or have arranged a payment plan by the August 1 deadline in order to be eligible for August Interim Housing.

August Interim is intended to provide housing for students who live too far away from campus to go home and/or cannot arrange housing off-campus. Because students will be required to move to a temporary room and/or their Fall room when required by Residential Life & Housing, August Interim is not intended to provide storage space for students’ belongings so they may leave campus.

Please note that the number of rooms with air-conditioning will be limited and students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible if they wish to request AC. Please note that students may not install or use window or portable air-conditioners.

Please note that housing in Elliott will be restricted to 1 floor. Because the rest of the building will be in use by Summer programs and conference groups, residents will only be able to access the floor they are assigned to and the laundry room.

Housing in Plimpton will be restricted to 2 floors. Because the rest of the building will be in use by Summer programs and conference groups, residents will only be able to access the floor they are assigned to, the TV Lounge, and the laundry room. Access to the study lounge and computer lab will not be available.

While students may request to live in the same room for the Summer that they are assigned to for the Fall, it is not guaranteed. Additionally, any student who lives in the same suite for the Summer as for the Fall will not be allowed to remain in the suite should they stay for August Interim (they would be required to relocate with their belongings to randomly-assigned shared non-AC temporary room in Reid Hall to facilitate cleaning of the suite & the residence hall).

Any student whose summer room assignment has not yet been cleaned by the Facilities office by the start of Summer Session 1 or 2 may be required to move into a temporary room until their summer assignment is available.

MAY INTERIM

May interim housing will likely require relocation from a student’s Spring 2014 room to a randomly-assigned shared non-AC double in Reid Hall (prior to being able to check into their summer room assignment), in order to facilitate cleaning of the residence halls for summer use.

The cost for May Interim is $425 ($170 for graduating seniors). Students with an approved extension past May 16 will be charged $42.50 per night between the approved extension date and the end of May Interim (ex. a Junior Marshall would be billed for the time between the end of their extension until after Graduation and the start of Session 1).

Students who are working with Alumni Affairs for Reunion may receive free housing for May Interim, but will not receive any discount off of the price for Summer Session 1.

AUGUST INTERIM

The cost for August Interim is $935.  Students who are eligible for early Fall move-in due to participation in NSOP, sports, or another approved reason will be charged $42.50 per night for August Interim to bridge the gap between the end of Summer Session 2 and the date that they would have been approved to move in early.

August interim housing will likely require relocation from a student's summer room to a randomly-assigned shared non-AC double in Reid Hall (prior to being able to check into their Fall 2014 room assignment), in order to facilitate cleaning of the residence halls after summer use.
