Knowledge & Action
Barnard breaks the boundaries between the classroom and the outside world. As a student, you’ll translate knowledge into action by engaging in real life experiences that will illuminate and inform your studies.
Uplifting Stories
At Barnard, you’ll learn how to tell stories in new ways that inform and enlighten. As an aspiring journalist and English major, Tara Terranova ’25 interned for Professor and Distinguished Journalist-in-Residence Maria Hinojosa ’84 at her company Futuro Media, a nonprofit committed to elevating the voices of those who are often overlooked.
Connecting with the Community
At Barnard, your coursework connects you to the community in real and meaningful ways. Several Barnard faculty and staff members contributed to one of the largest urban street tree growth studies ever conducted. The decade-long research reflects hands-on coursework that can offer real-world solutions.
Empowering peers
The Francine A. LeFrak Foundation Center for Well-Being offers students, staff, and faculty a holistic approach to financial, mental, and physical health. One of the center's offerings, the Financial Fluency Certificate Program, which welcomed its inaugural class in the fall of 2024, is designed to make financial fluency an accessible and transformative experience for the Barnard community.
Research
Research drives new products, policies, and processes that solve problems. At Barnard, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate with professors on scholarly and scientific research, whatever your major.
