Fall 2026 Room Change Request Dates

Mark these dates on your calendar!

Submit your request: Log in to the Housing Portal and click FORMS to find the Fall Room Change Request form.
Tell us your preferences: On the form, you can rank your requested buildings & room types. Make sure to list any students you'd like to live with or specific rooms you'd like to live in!
Let your roommate know you've applied for a room change, so they can submit a request of their own or try to recruit a new roommate.
Cross your fingers! Room changes are not guaranteed. We'll do our best to find you a new room, but room changes depend on available space and a different room may not be available.
Check your email: You'll receive an email by 11pm on September 23 with the results of your request.
Make the move: If your request is approved, you will move following the "Approved Room Change" timeline below.

First-years: If you're a first-year, you can only be considered for a room change within first-year housing.
Room changes are final: If you are approved for a room change, it is binding. You can't change your mind once you've been approved! So only include preferences for spaces you're willing to move to.
Accessibility: housing accommodations approved by CARDS will be taken into consideration, but depend on available space.
This is for Barnard students only: CU@BC students are not able to move within Barnard housing.

Got approval for a room change? Awesome! Now, follow these steps to make sure your move goes smoothly.

Friday, September 25:
- Sign for your new room keys at the Res Life Office (110 Sulzberger) between 9am - 5pm. Remember, only you can pick them up.
- Start moving in cooperation with the person vacating the new room (if applicable) and the person replacing you in your old room (if applicable)
Sunday, September 27:
- Finishing moving out of your old room by 11pm
- Make sure you clean you room and don't leave anything behind when you move out!
Monday, September 28:
- You'll be given a Blue Room Change Envelope for your old keys.
- Return them to the Res Life Office or the check-out box in the Sulzberger Hall lobby by 10am on Monday.
- Scan the QR code on the envelope to submit the Confirm Check-Out Form on the Portal.
Don't forget: Not returning your old keys will result in a $100 improper check-out fee and a $100 lock change fee per key.
