Campus Access
Campus Access

About Access
Campus access will be defined by one of four levels to ensure that Barnard remains a welcoming and safe place for our community to live and learn. The primary entrance point for campus is the main gate at 117th Street and Broadway. Details about each level are available below.
Level B is the default access level for campus unless otherwise announced by the College.
The access level will be adjusted to reflect current circumstances and will take into account any information or potential events that could affect the College’s operations. These levels are subject to change based on evolving circumstances.
Current Access Level
Level B
Barnard remains on level B with the following access points:
- Campus Access Points: The main gate on 117th and Broadway will remain the primary point of entry and exit, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
- The gate on 119th and Broadway will be available as a point of entry or exit for BC and CUID holders Monday - Friday 8AM - 6PM. Guests will not be admitted through this entrance.
- The 119th and Broadway door entrance to Milbank Hall will be accessible to persons with disabilities Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8AM - 11PM, to match the building hours of Milbank Hall.
- All perimeter doors will be available for exit during daytime hours. To protect yourself and our community, we ask that you do not hold the door open for someone wanting to enter the campus and ask them to use the main entry points. The perimeter doors will also not be available as entry points with swipe cards.
- In the event of an emergency or drill, all emergency exits remain available for use at all times.
- ID Requirements: Access to campus will be limited to those who present valid BC/CU IDs.
- Unmasking Requests: In order to check IDs, anyone wearing face coverings may be asked to temporarily remove them unless the covering is included in their Barnard or Columbia ID photo. Anyone who refuses to comply with this request will not be permitted on campus or will be asked to leave.
- Potential Bag Searches: Anyone entering campus may be asked to display the contents of their backpacks, purses, luggage, or other bags. Anyone who refuses to share the contents of their bags will not be permitted on campus. Those already on campus may also be asked to open and share the contents of their bags.
- In the event of emergency or drill, all emergency exits will be available for use
- All guests must be approved through the Workday guest process. Guest access is outlined below.
- For ADA access and accommodations, the CARES community safety officer at the main gate can assist. Accessibility is outlined below.
- The 119th and Broadway door entrance to Milbank Hall will be accessible to persons with disabilities Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8AM - 11PM, to match the building hours of Milbank Hall.
- To accelerate entry to these doors and ensure their eligibility to use these entrances can be confirmed, students with disabilities should contact The Center for Accessibility Resources & Disability Services (CARDS) or call 212-854-4634 and employees should contact Human Resources.
- Those needing an accessible entrance for an event should contact campusaccess@barnard.edu.
