Campus Access
Campus Access

About Access
Campus access will be defined by one of four levels to ensure that Barnard remains a welcoming and safe place for our community to live and learn. The primary entrance point for campus is the main gate at 117th Street and Broadway. Details about each level are available below.
Level B is the default access level for campus unless otherwise announced by the College.
The access level will be adjusted to reflect current circumstances and will take into account any information or potential events that could affect the College’s operations. These levels are subject to change based on evolving circumstances.
Current Access Level
Level B
- Campus Entry: Access to Barnard will be limited to the main gate on West 117th Street. All other campus entrances will be closed. Those with ADA accessibility needs who have been previously authorized to use the West 119th Street and Broadway entrance to access the north end of campus will still be permitted to enter there, but will need to contact dispatch at 212-854-6666 to ensure that someone will be at the gate to meet them.
- ID Requirements: Access to campus will be limited to those who present valid BC/CU IDs.
- Unmasking Requests: In order to check IDs, anyone wearing face coverings may be asked to temporarily remove them unless the covering is included in their Barnard or Columbia ID photo. Anyone who refuses to comply with this request will not be permitted on campus or will be asked to leave.
- Potential Bag Searches: Anyone entering campus may be asked to display the contents of their backpacks, purses, luggage, or other bags. Anyone who refuses to share the contents of their bags will not be permitted on campus. Those already on campus may also be asked to open and share the contents of their bags.
- In the event of emergency or drill, all emergency exits will be available for use
- All guests must be approved through the Workday guest process. Guest access is outlined below.
- Move-Out Assistance: Anyone in the Quad requesting guests for Move Out on May 16th, 21st, or 22nd should use the Quad Move Out Assistance Campus Access Form. Guests providing move-out assistance for any other date must be pre-registered and present a valid ID that matches the pre-registered name to enter. Wristbands will be required for entry.
- May 21st Columbia Commencement Ceremony: Guest access will be limited to those guests of graduates who pre-register through Barnard. Information on this guest access will be provided to graduates closer to Commencement. No other guests for any other purpose will be permitted on Barnard’s campus on May 21st, and we ask that any guests with flexible dates be scheduled to come on campus on a different day.
At this time, we believe that guest access protocols for all other dates will remain the same where guests must be pre-registered and present a valid ID that matches the pre-registered name to enter.
- For ADA access and accommodations, the CARES community safety officer at the main gate can assist. Accessibility is outlined below.
- The 119th and Broadway door entrance to Milbank Hall and the 119th and Broadway gate entrance remain accessible to persons with disabilities Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8AM - 11PM, to match the building hours of Milbank Hall (see below).
- To accelerate entry to these doors and ensure their eligibility to use these entrances can be confirmed, students with disabilities should contact The Center for Accessibility Resources & Disability Services (CARDS) or call 212-854-4634 and employees should contact Human Resources.
- Those needing an accessible entrance for an event should contact campusaccess@barnard.edu.
