Barnard International Travel Policy
Barnard Global provides support and guidance to faculty and students engaging in College-related travel abroad. Students are required to get approval for College-sponsored travel abroad from Barnard Global and to register their travel through the Crisis24 Horizon system (instructions below). Students studying abroad for credit must apply through the Barnard study abroad portal. Students planning to travel abroad independently with Barnard funding or with a Barnard faculty member for research purposes must submit an application for Barnard-Sponsored Non-Credit Independent Travel Abroad ahead of time. Barnard faculty should register all College-related international travel through the Crisis24 Horizon system (instructions below).
Crisis24
Barnard College, in partnership with Columbia University, provides emergency travel support through Crisis24 Horizon to all College affiliates traveling on College business. Crisis24 provides international medical and security support services; please see the Columbia main page for more information. While Crisis24 provides insurance coverage for medical emergencies abroad to affiliates traveling on College-related business, it is important for all Barnard affiliates to also verify their coverage abroad through their regular health insurance provider. Barnard Global monitors international security, natural disasters, medical alerts, and other emerging global issues and will be in touch with faculty and students registered in an affected location as needed.
