Maria Hinojosa ‘84, Inaugural Journalist-in-Residence and a member of the Barnard English Department, has been nominated for the 2024 Peabody Award for Public Service for the Frontline PBS documentary, After Uvalde: Guns, Grief, & Texas Politics.
The documentary, produced in partnership with Futuro Investigates and The Texas Tribune, follows the Uvalde community as it grappled with trauma and became an active force in the fight to ban assault rifles in the wake of the 2022 shooting. Hinojosa, who was an executive producer on the project, pays special attention to the shortcomings of the police response, Uvalde’s history of struggle, its efforts to heal, and hope for the future.
