B.A., summa cum laude, Barnard College; M.A., Columbia University; PhD candidate, Bard Graduate Center, New York City. Folkman danced as a member of the Mark Morris Dance Group (1996-2007), with Martha Clarke’s off-Broadway revival of "Garden of Earthly Delights," the Repertory Understudy Group for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and for choreographers/companies Richard Colton/Amy Spencer, Sara Rudner, Neta Pulvermacher, Kraig Patterson, and Sally Hess. Recent choreographic and performance projects include Kevin Newbury's 2014 productions of "Paul’s Case"/Prototype Festival and "Euryanthe"/Bard SummerScape, "Pigmalion" and "Les Indes Galantes"/Boston Baroque, "Mephisto Project"/L’Opéra Français de New York, collaborations with poet Robert Kelly and new music ensemble Contemporaneous, and Thaddeus Strassberger's productions of "Oresteia," "Le Roi Malgré Lui" and "Der Ferne Klang." As guest artist/instructor Folkman has taught Mark Morris’ repertory at Phillips Academy/Andover, George Mason University, UMass/Amherst, and Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges. As guest lecturer Folkman has taught Dance History at Sarah Lawrence College, for Language & Thinking at Bard College, and as Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance and First Year Seminar at Bard College.
