Rebecca Bliss is a Brooklyn-based dancer, educator, and choreographer specializing in the African-based dances of Cuba. In addition to serving on the faculty of Barnard College since 2010, Rebecca continues almost two decades of work in K–12 arts education with the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Dance Africa Program. Rebecca is a former faculty member of Ballet Hispanico’s pre-professional division, where she had the opportunity to teach for the Summer 2019 Cuban Dance Intensive at NOBA (New Orleans Ballet Association). She is a frequent guest lecturer in the dance program at Princeton University, and has conducted master classes and workshops for several local schools, organizations, and dance companies, including Rutgers, Sarah Lawrence, The Master’s School, Lexington School for the Deaf, Areytos Performance Works, and The Ballet Hispanico Dance Company. Rebecca received an individualized master’s degree from New York University focusing on her work in Cuban dance, pedagogy, and performance. She continues over two decades of work as a freelance performer, educator, choreographer, and consultant, combining careful attention to both artistry and scholarship.
